The joining of students in groups for collaboration is one of the most advanced educational technologies. Performing various educational tasks with classmates, students acquire not only educational knowledge, but also experience in communicating with other people, the experience of joint search and acquisition of new knowledge. In addition, modern studies show that at first knowledge exists in an external form. This external form of knowledge exists in the form of communication between people with each other. And then it is transformed into an internal form and become knowledge of an individual person. These results show the importance of communication between students in the learning process, and groups for collaboration are a great way to organize such communication.
Various criteria can be used to create collaborative groups within a class. For example, most often students form a single group with approximately the same level of training in the subject. In other cases, for example, in programming classes, on the contrary, several students are with an initial level of training, and one more trained student who can help others as a tutor can be included in one group. In these cases, a random criterion is most often used. For example, a teacher asks students to name numbers in order from 1 to 6, then all who have number 1 are combined in the first group, students with number 2 are combined in the second group, etc.
At the same time, sometimes the process of creating collaborative groups takes some time and can be tiring for the teacher to come up with a new procedure each time to divide students into groups.
